Lisa Scott Lee, What she said about STEPS?
"When Steps began we were so poor. We used to steal toilet rolls from our record producer Pete Waterman. We didn't have a record deal until our first single, '5,6,7,8' and we didn't make any money until our third, 'One for Sorrow' went to number two. We live on £50 a week. We were always hungry and broke. I was devastated by the split. I didn't see it coming. It was a horrible time. I remember a statement being put out saying we were leaving while we were at the top of our game. I was furious because it was a lie; I felt the fans were being cheated. It was two years before the rest of us spoke to Claire and H.
I have some regrets but Steps isn't one of them, despite the bad times. Even though I was angry, I never wished it out of my life. Two years after the split I texted H saying, 'I miss you.' He texted back and that was it. We always had such fun together; once we went out on stage in Taiwan and H shouted, 'Hello Japan!' by mistake. A few months later, I saw Claire in a nightclub. She looked terrified but I hugged her and we both cried. Doing reunion hurt and healed us. We got everything out so we could move on.
We are looking good for 40-somethings. We take care of ourselves. No one has had botox or anything mad. There are no secrets, no tricks except good diets and exercise." -Lisa Scott-Lee
